OUR HISTORY
Running The Race is a Christian Sports Medicine missions organization founded in 2018. Running The Race grew out of a desire to meet the medical and spiritual needs of underserved athletes in Iten, Kenya.
The needs of these athletes were first observed in 2016 on a medical missions trip by Dr. Jeremy Henrichs in Kapsowar, Kenya. During that trip Dr. Henrichs, with the help of Dr. Bruce Dahlman (Kabarak University Family Medicine Residency Director), met with coaches and athletes to assess the specific needs of this athletic community. In the summer of 2017 the first sports medicine clinics were conducted by Dr. Henrichs and physical therapist Pam Scott at Iten County Hospital. These clinics were well received and served to establish the trusting relationships needed to continue this sports medicine ministry.
The next step involved a short term sports medicine missions team of clinicians that traveled to Iten, Kenya in January 2018. This initial team, led by Dr. Henrichs, conducted clinics and a sports medicine seminar at Iten County Hospital that provided education to athletes, coaches, and local clinicians. The team was welcomed by hospital administration, government officials, coaches and athletes who expressed a desire to establish a long term relationship.
